WA Forum: Supporting Teacher Development

WA Forum: Supporting Teacher Development

“We know that the major source of controllable variance in our system relates to the teacher, and that even the best teacher has variability in the effect that he or she has on his or her students” (Hattie, 2012, p. 169)

So how can we support our teachers to become the most effective they can be?

How can they continue to improve and develop?

Two strategies that have proven effective are the coaching model and feedback from walkthroughs. In this forum four presenters will provide an outline of how they have used these techniques to support teacher and self-development.

Peer observation, walkthroughs, coaching, feedback etc are everywhere you look currently, and for good reason. From the AITSL standards and Australian Curriculum to sector strategic plans and the emphasis on quality teaching, there is no missing or avoiding them; they are key strategies and tools for supporting ongoing improvement in teaching and learning.
