Joy Burch has a proven record of listening to and delivering for the communities of Brindabella since she was elected to the ACT Legislative Assembly in 2008.
Prior to her election in 2008, Joy worked as a nurse, managed her own childcare business, managed community health and support services, and worked in policy roles in both the government and non government sectors.
In late 2009 Joy was appointed to the Ministry, taking on the portfolios of Housing, Ageing, Community Services, Women, Multicultural Affairs, Children and Young People, and Disability. In the new Assembly in November 2012, Joy Burch was appointed Minister for Education and Training, and retained the Ministries of Disability, Children and Young People; the Arts; Gaming and Racing;
Women; and Multicultural Affairs.
In the most recent 2014 reshuffle Joy became the first women to be Minister for Police and Emergency Service and retained the portfolios of Education and Training, disability, Gaming and Racing and the Arts.
Joy has a strong commitment to accessible and affordable health care; access to high quality education services; and well planned and sustained growth across the Brindabella area. The sum of Joy’s experiences has given her a well rounded insight into the importance of effective, socially progressive governments.
